As a Dog/Cat or Puppy/Kitten foster home you promise to abide by the following rules:

  1. The Puppies/kittens and mother dog/cat will be brought back to the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center when the puppies/kittens are six weeks of age for distemper vaccinations and de-worming. The puppies/kittens will then return to your home until eight weeks of age.

  2. At eight weeks of age the puppies/kittens will return to the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center to be placed for adoption.

  3. All puppy/kitten and dog/cat return, vaccine, and adoption dates will be determined by the Shelter Manager. These dates will be given to you at the time of pickup.

  4. All puppy/kitten food and other non-essentials will be provided by the foster parents, not the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center.

  5. No puppy/kitten or dog/cat will be given away to friends or family. Please inform potential adopters of when the puppies/kittens will return to the shelter. They may adopt the puppies/kittens at the shelter. Applications for puppies/kittens may be taken before adoption release, but the puppies/kittens will still be on a first come first serve basis whether we have an application ahead of time or not.

  6. Immediately call the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center if any dog/cat becomes ill during regular business hours at 361-575-8573 (Mon. - Fri. 10-5, Sat.12-5, closed Sunday). If you are to have an emergency situation during non-business hours you will be provided with an emergency contact number on your sign out sheet. If you choose to take any animal to the veterinarian without shelter approval, you are responsible for the medical bill, not the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center.

  7. You will not hold the Dorothy H. O'Connor Pet Adoption Center responsible for any illness that may be transmitted to your own pets.

  8. All puppies/kittens and dogs/cats under your care are to be treated with the utmost respect, dignity and love.

  9. Also see information on the Foster Sign out Sheet.
