Roger (formerly Jaxson)

Roger
We adopted Roger (formerly Jaxson) in early May. We had experience with Jack Russell Terriers and wanted a high energy addition to our 'pack'. Roger came to us ready made and fit into our family immediately. He was a wonderful addition right from the start and added a new dimesion to our family that only a JRT could deliver! After only a couple weeks it seemed he had been with us for years. The staff, especially Kim, were as kind and loving as any foster family could be. Roger has a pack of friends he plays with daily and we couldn't be happier with our addition. Whether it be playing fetch, running on the beach or wrestling with his buddies, Roger gets daily activities and we love him more every day! Never a dull moment with Roger around.

Chad Arnold

Lacey (formerly Sarah)

Lacey
My Mom and I adopted Sarah who I renamed Lacey in May 2010. She was a very scared and timid girl when we first brought her home. Now she is full of life and energy and loving her new life as well as her new companions. She is a very sweet girl with lots of love to give. She is very happy and healthy and brings alot of love to our family.

I would like to thank the Dorothy O' Conner staff for taking care of our sweet girl until we could give her the loving home she always deserved.

Dottie

Dottie
When my girls lost their dog in an accident, we decided we would adopt a pet for the first time. When I saw Dottie on your website, I was instantly drawn to her intelligent, playful expression. When the girls and I came to DOCPAC, we already had our hearts set on Dottie. She is doing great in her new home. She and our other dog Buttercup get along well. She's wonderful with the kids, a real sweetheart, smart, and she loves to please. Her new hobbies are swimming and going for rides in back of the truck with Butter.

Violet
My family adopted Violet in March 2010. Her body was shaved when we first got her but her fur is slowly growing out and she has turned out to be beautiful. She loves sleeping on our bed and has done a great job with her litter box. Violet has two children whom just love to show her off to company. Thanks for allowing my family to adopt her! She is in good hands!

Cash

Cash
For a while now, our son who is 11 has been asking for a brother/sister. Unfortunately that did not happen. So, by himself he went online and looked up animals in our area in need of good home. He shouted "Mom" come here I have to show you something. I looked and seen "Cash." I went the next day and saw him in person and fell in love! We adopted Cash and then picked up our son from school. It's been over a month and we haven't heard once I want a brother/sister he tells me now "Mom I love him so much, I have a Bestfriend!"

Gracie (formerly Vera)

Gracie

I came to the shelter not thinking I would be bringing a new addition to the family home, but then I saw Gracie I fell in love. Gracie now resides in Kingwood texas with me and my other Schnauzer Samson. Since I have taken her home she has been an amazing dog that I was blessed to find. Gracie is the princess of the house and sleeps under the covers in bed every night with me and my other Schnauzer.

Brook

Brook

Update - Brook was meant to be a part of our family - she is the smartest dog Iwe have ever had! She won our hearts while we were fostering her when she learned tricks in record time! She has added jumping through a hoop, catching bubbles and ringing a bell to her bag of tricks! Along with that, she is a faithful companion and loves her new brother and sister - Astro and Darci.

Don't know what we would do without that beautiful brown baby!
Thanks DOCPAC!

Autumn (formerly Roxie)

Autumn (formerly Roxie)

Autumn (formerly known as Roxie) has been in our family since September 2009. She is a wonderful loving dog. I must say she is spoiled rotten by the entire family! She is very calm and smart. She knows when I am pulling up the drive way before I even turn in. She loves to run up to the window as I drive up and begins to bark and get excited to see me. She also loves to go along for a drive. She listens very well to demands. She listens to "sit", "get down", "get in", "circle" (she spins in circles), and come here". Autumn has brought so much joy to my life.

Keep up the good work DOCPAC!

Bentley

Bentley We lost an essential member of our family last week which completely devastated us. Our precious little boy's passing crushed our hearts. My husband knew that to help us to breath again, we needed to begin to care for another sweet companion.

Searching lead us to a little bit of Heaven, here. Each set of soulful eyes and waggling tail telegraphed that we were in the right place.

Many dogs were considered as being okay, but when we saw Bentley (who was still recovering from his procedure) we knew we had found the newest addition to our family. We didn't even get to pet, hold or cuddle him and yet we knew from the minute we saw him that he would be coming home with us.

Yesterday, we picked Bentley up to take him to his new home and his adjustment period lasted only a few minutes.

His kingdom is our hearts and his has accepted his reign. We are blessed to have found sound a remarkable little guy.

By the way, Bentley isn't a replacement for our precious boy who is gone; he is here to receive the love that had lost its owner. Plenty of love left in our hearts for this wiggly, precious pup.

Thank you for saving Bentley and us.

Eevi (formerly Sweetie)

Eevi (formerly Sweetie) We wanted to let you know that Sweetie, a beautiful who-knows-what mutt, is doing great. We adopted her on Dec 31st, 2009. She traveled all the way with us to Maryland. We renamed her Eevi (but she's still a sweetie). She runs almost every day with me and loves every moment of it. Then she comes home and cuddles with my wife while she studies and watches TV. So she's really the best of both worlds for us.

We had a massive blizzard which shut down the entire capital region, but for Eevi it was a gigantic playground. She dug in the four feet deep snow looking for buried treasure. Most of the time all we could see was a tail bouncing through the snow. Recently we took her camping on vacation and she loved it. Kayaking with her was a blast.

We really wanted to thank you for doing such a great job of taking care of all of the "Eevi's" out there. Your care and compassion enabled us to adopt a loveable, healthy dog who is an outstanding member of our family. We hope others will see this post and come check y'all out.
Thanks again!

Duke

Daisy has a new friend Duke. We adopted Duke on April 7, 2010. Duke fits right in with our family of furry friends. He loves to romp around the house like a nut with Daisy. I can't wipe the smile off my face when watching these two playing together like little puppies.

Booboo (formerly Chase)

Booboo I love my little Booboo who I adopted as "Chase" about a year ago thanks to Sally and her wonderful staff. Booboo was heartworm-positive but Docpac took care of all the treatments via a local vet in Victoria. We are so happy with our little baby. He is gentle, loving, and oh so intelligent. We have another dog, Max, who is a German Shepherd and they just adore each other. But actually Booboo's best friend is the border collie who lives next door...his name is Champion. They run around like a pair of lunatics when you get them together! Booboo loves country living and barbeque meats which he does not get too often because we don't want him to get fat. Maybe, though, just maybe for his 5 year birthday, which is this month. Thanks a million and keep up the good work!

Honey and Shoogi

Honey and Shoogi
My very first pet adoption was Buddy. He has been an "only child" since May of 2009, and I had been looking for a sister for him for several months. On March 6th, we adopted Honey and they became instant friends. A couple of weeks later, I took Honey to DOCPAC for a visit and to show off her new haircut, and we saw a picture of Shoogi, and now Buddy has two sisters. My fur family is complete and each one of them brings a special joy to my life. Buddy is my little lap potato, Shoogi is a snuggler, and Honey is the life of the party!

Little Bit (formally Twinkle)

Little Bit

We adopted Little Bit on December 28,2009 for my mom who has dementia. She has been a blessing, between her and Baby my mothers confusion has decreased and she is more cooperative. She now has three 'big sisters' (Jezzabell and Baby the cats and Sasha the puppy) and is just what this family needs. She is a big bundle of TNT in a little bitty package.....hence her name change. We just want to say thank you for being there when Little Bit needed you and when we needed her.

Princess Penny Nibbler Short

Penny Thanks you so much for introducing Ms. Penny to us. She was an amazing addition to our family. Smart and very kid friendly, I cannot remember a time that we didn't have her! She loves to chase balls, roll over (very cutely I might add) to get her treats, go for walks and tease our cats. She adores going for a car ride and knows when it is time to go and get the girls from school.

Adopting Penny was one of the best decisions that we have made for our family. Thanks so much for trusting us to take care of her. You guys do an amazing job!

When she came to us she was a little under weight and would not really eat but she has gained weight and loves to eat. I could not have asked for a better pet.

Thank you for Sady!!!

Cheyenne spends her days playing softly with me. At night, she's sprawled on either my bed, in her kennel, and or following all over the house. We are reenforcing her Obedience Training and she has picked it up real fast. She's a very smart dog and she goes out of her way to please. We go every where together if possible. She is my best friend and she's been a real joy and I can't imagine life without her!!

Thank You Very Much for the opportunity to adopt her. that was the best decision that I have made this year.

Toto

Furby It's me again, oh and Toto of course. He is still with me and we have both been as close as we could ever be if we were any closer we'd be connected to each other! My family and I are moving into a habatiat house soon on a brand new street!

So of course Toto and I are exicted but today there was something I noticed that would be missing from my little guys life once we moved from my grandparents. His favorite napping spot on her leather couch!! That dog is alway waiting for me on one of their ultra soft couches or even their lazyboys! I know he will be upset with my dad home. Especially since he hogs our little couch. I've been beggin' my Aunt to let us take one just till we can get our own furniture. But thats highly unlikely. But Toto and I are still our happy-go-lucky selves and refuse to give up hope on a nice comfty couch as a welcoming present!

Furby Hey everyone,
We adopted Furby on August 19. He has adjusted so well to his new home and his two kitty friends Shiloh and Pawsome are starting to warm up to him. He has added a lot of fun and love to this home and has picked out his favorite spots to lounge around at. He has some new toys and his kitty friends are sharing their toys with him also. He is so friendly and loves everyone, I think he knows he has found a forever home and family.

Thank you Dorothy O'Connor pet center for this web site where I saw Furby, and for taken care of all the pets who need homes.

Toto

Hi everyone,
Toto Toto was up for adoption at the Victoria Mall during a Festival along with about 6 Labrador puppies. Of course, seeing a pair of twin girls with a cute black lab with blue eyes, I thought my heart was set on a big dog in the house. But on the way I started thinking, "Wait... what about Chewie?" I thought of our little Chihuahua being smushed like a pancake "He's much too small for that big of a playmate!" But I pushed it to the back of my mind as I caught a glance of what might be my future puppy. My dad was called by my mom and they made terms and conditions on keeping the dog.

Just when he was about to hang up I spotted a lonely dog scared to death curled up in a ball in a cage underneath the labs. I pushed myself through and before you know it I was holding the lucky one.
"Dad its Toto!" I remember telling him of the resemblance of the dog off of the Wizard of Oz. He took a look and immediately knew my stubborn mind had changed. "Be careful he bites." It meant nothing as soon as I held that little dog in my hands. He wasn't as silky, young, or (what dad stated to be) cute. And though nobody wanted to hold the poor dog I did. He was the best decision I have ever made. Toto is now a lazy but happy dog who enjoys sitting in a cozy lap and whose bark has never been worse then his bite. He is my little baby and now has a mommy and family that loves him to bits!

It has almost been a year since I adopted Maddi but it seems longer than that. I can't remember what she was called before because I remember walking out of the center calling her Maddi all the way to the car. She's loving her life here with us and our other dog Toby; they hit it off first thing when we got home that day. She didn't hit it off to well with my dad at first but he came around. Thank you so much for helping me find the type of dog I was looking for. I know when I move out and get a place of my own she'll make it easier and I won't miss home as much becase I'll have a little bit of home with me.

Thank you so much,

About a year ago I adopted Roxy, formerly known as Dixie. I was told that she was adopted once and brought back because she needed too much attention and cried a lot. I just wanted to write to give you all an update on her and let you know she is happy and doing great. Thanks for all your help.

Sam

Sam

Sam, formerly Mr. Wrinkles, adopted me! I first encountered Mr. Wrinkles when I was visiting your center with my daughter who was looking to adopt. Apparently Mr. Wrinkles (Shar Pei Mix) had been adopted out, but it did not work out, so he was being returned. He caught my attention immediately with his bouncing, clumsey, boyish attitude. I discovered from the staff that he was a digger (has not dug) and could not be confined in a fenced in yard. We left the center that day, but I continued to think about him, returned a month later and asked if he was still available and to my surprise no one had adopted him. I visited and played with him, but decided I really did not need to take a 40 lb. (now 50 lb.) puppy home. I left the center again, drove half way home and returned and let him adopt me! Sam moved in and from day one was Family!!! He loves the water, playing fetch, does well on all commands, and will beat you getting in your car or truck-justs loves to be loved.

I pray that everyone will visit your center and let one of the pets catch their eye!
I adopted on May 23, 2009, just a short time ago, and had a wonderful experience there.

Hi!....I'm Willow. At DOCPAC my name was Muffin. I love my new home! I enjoy napping indoors during the day, and in the evenings I love sunbathing out by the pool. I have made so many new friends at my new home....especially my dog friend, Miley, and the kitty cat, Paris. I have really gotten good at climbing trees, just check me out in this big oak! I like to explore and watch the birds in the birdbath.
I especially like to nose around in my owner's bedroom and wait for her to give me love and attention. A big thank you to DOCPAC for taking such good care of me during my stay at the shelter.
Talk to you all soon.....Willow.

Charlie, Zorro, and Shela

Hey everyone!!
It's the Stone family with an update! The dogs have been doing great and we feel that they are extremely happy here. They have learned to catch small animals and bring them to us. They are always so proud of all of them too. Whenever we take walks, all three of them are right at our heels. Shela never, ever leaves us. We love how they sit on the porch when we are rocking in our rocking chairs. As a matter of fact, Charlie also enjoys rocking. He is so silly and so very sweet. We can't see why anyone wouldn't want him. He is by far one of the best dogs we have ever had. They are great fun and we are so blessed to have them to call ours. We love them very much and we thank you for all that you've done. I'll send more pictures soon, but I have attached a few.

Thanks again!

We are very glad Shadow has become a part of our family.

Callie

We absolutely adore "Katie"- we actually changed her name to Callie. She is doing wonderful. Callie is adjusting fine, she is a little whiney but we expected that since she was used to being with her sister Kendra, and the fact that she was recently neutered so we are sure to spend as much time with her as possible and to be very gentle with her- she stays inside the house with us most of the time and we let her go outside and play also. She is very obedient which surprised me cause she is still a puppy. She is absolutely wonderful. Me and My Fiancé both love her so much.

I do intend to send y'all some pictures, just gotta find the time to take some.

Thanks for everything.

She has made many new friends (to include the handsome Chihuahua who lives near) and is very healthy and happy. Thank you so much, for caring for her until her Forever Mommy could find her.

Heidi and Brandi

Heidi & Brandi

I adopted Heidi and Brandi on September 6, 2009. Prior to that, I came to know and love them while volunteering at DOCPAC. They were so sweet and loving, and so attached to each other. I just couldn't get them out of my mind and I knew I had to take them home with me. And I did! My life has not been the same since. At first they had some behavior issues but we got those worked out pretty quickly. They are still shy and nervous around strangers but tend to warm up quickly - especially to women. They don't trust men. As you can tell from the pictures, they are the cutest doggies ever! But on top of being the cutest doggies ever, they are so smart also. They have learned many new behaviors; walking on the leash, sit, stay, down, shake, touch, and kiss. They are obsessed with any ball and will play for hours. We go walking every day around our neighborhood and at the park on weekends. I want to thank everyone at DOCPAC for saving their lives and for taking such good care of them while they were at the shelter. I can't imagine my life without them.

Pandora

Pandora

I wanted to send a picture of Pandora to let you all know how she's doing. I have put a P in from of her name and she's now Pandora. She is quite a charming little girl. She has acclimatized to her new surroundings here in Prairie Lea very well. She's now a Hill Country cat! Here is a picture of her. This photo was taken Sunday with my sister's digital camera. I have taken some of Pandora myself with my disposable camera but since there is film left I'll have to wait to develop them until the film is used up. I hope you all enjoy the photo. We'll keep in touch.

Sincerely, Rachel Smith

Simon

Simon

Simon here,

I just want to let you know that I am doing great with my new family. As you can see from the picture I have a big brother - that is me on the right. I also have a sister but she was too shy for a picture. Thanks to everyone at DOCPAC for taking such good care of me when I was there.

Ms. Bella

Ms. Bella

Ms. Bella is doing great. On the return trip to Waco, she sat on the console, and intently watched every leaf, car, person, everything. Just a perfect little angel.

She had her first vet visit on Monday. She's settling into her new home and is proving to be quite the character. She looks forward each day to her long walk, that always turns into a different adventure. Trying to bulk her up a bit.

Take care, Janice Krohn

Sir Lancealot

Sir Lancealot

WOW!! I just wanted to say Thank You for Sir!! As soon as he walk in the door I think he knew he was home. My other cats love him and our dog thinks he's a big bed. They play and chase each either aound the house. We have to be careful because they will trip you if you are in their way. Sir still loves to climb which is ok by us. He doesn't let you walk unless he leads.

I know now it's true what they say they adopt us we don't adopt them. Thank You again and Sir is finally home.

Thanks, Janie and Shelley

Cola and Layla

Cola and Layla

Our house has been so full of joy with these babies. Cola is just as sweet as always. She loves her tummy to be rubbed and is such a sweetie. Layla is having a ball with Cola flying through the house and playing chase. Layla loves to climb on all of the bookshelves, and she can be quite stealthy. Most of the time I don't even realize that she is there until she knocks something over. These girls are VERY spoiled and loved so much! They both love their yummies as you can tell by their size. They have been such a joy to our family, and we don't know how we did without them before!

Have a great Christmas season and a Happy New Year!

Love, Jessica R. Schumacher

Grace

We adopted Grace this week and I just wanted to let you know that your facility is far and away the cleanest and most professionally ran I have seen. The animals all look happy and the staff were very helpful and really cared for the animals as well. Grace has adapted better than could ever been expected and has a great friend in Daisy (2 year old female beagle mix). Grace is very smart and is becoming very spoiled to say the least. Thank you for the great experience in giving another animal a place to call home.

Thought I'd send an updated picture of Ann who I adopted last year on Thanksgiving!! Ann is definitely not the same dog as when I got her. She loves to go jogging with me, LOVES exploring and chasing birds, and thinks every visitor is hers. She's extremely smart!!! I talk to her in sentences with 3 different commands and she follows all three...amazing.

Here's Ann enjoying the lake this summer,

Bosley

Dear Sally and Associates:

Just a brief message regarding the darling, lovable BOSLEY. What a nice pet. We took him to the groomers and they did a fine job on him. All that have met Bosley, have commented what a beautiful pet (and he has an excellent disposition) and, when walking, he has a very distinguishable "prance". He has adjusted very well to his new environment and he enjoys his yard space and seems perfectly content.

I just wanted to give each and everyone of you our THANKS and appreciation for all you did for Bosley and the courteous and considerate treatment my wife and I received from all of you. You are all professionals in your line of work and we departed with a wonderful pet and high opinion your pet adoptions center.

Thanks again,
Edward and Ruby Hellekson

Fuego and Roxie

Ringo and Roxie

After losing our 15 year-old Border Collie to cancer, we found our home to be somewhat empty and decided we were ready to welcome a homeless dog. We searched Petfinder for about a month and kept coming back to these two dogs. We first traveled to Victoria, Texas and immediately fell in love with Ringo (the black dog), who was named Panda at the time. We quickly realized after bringing him home, however, that he was highly social and needed a buddy. We found Roxie (the brown dog) on Petfinder at the Lockhart Animal Shelter just outside Austin. They immediately took to each other and after only a month they are inseparable. They are funny, energetic, loving, and they add a great deal of joy to our lives. Thanks to Petfinder for making this resource available!

Bella

Bella

Just wanted to send some more recent pics. These are of "Blue", the heeler mix that we adopted in (I believe it was) October. We call her "Bella" or "Bella Blue" now. She is happy, active and a joy to have. She loves living in the country and loves the 2 ponds that we have on our 200+ acres out here in Schroeder (Goliad). She also loves the cow's water trough!! Y'all told us that she loves water, and you were RIGHT!!! She loves it, but doesn't love to bathe. LOL :)

She is a very curious dog, observant and loving. She was having problems with eating our newspapers before we could get to them, but she's MUCH MUCH better about that now. The only thing that she does that we can't 'break' her of is jumping up on people when they walk up to her. She gets very hyper and jumps on everyone. We just constantly work with her and she seems to be getting better about it. Anyhow, she's just great! We all love her very much. Her favorite toy is her koala bear. We yell outside "Go get your bear!" and she finds it right away and brings it to us!!! :P It's too cute.

Well, I have attached some pics. Hopefully they aren't too small to view. You can prob open them up if you have a pic viewing program or something like that.

We tell people all the time they have GOT to go see your establishment, and how incredibly impressed we were with the staff, animals and care (cleanliness). We rave about y'all all the time. Thank you so much for our new family member Bella!

Buster

Buster

Hello to all!

I am sending this e-mail on behalf of Pam DePine and Nancy Roznovsky. They adopted Buster one week ago today (I was with them when he was adopted.) He is going really great and has adapted well! He's already spoiled and sleeps in the bed with them! He is learning how to use his doggy door to go out and in. We have attached some photos for you all to see.

We will be taking him to Dr. Schaar next week for his heart worm preventative medication, etc.

Just wanted to let you all know that Buster has a sweet home and he loves it!
